Q: How do I know my document will remain confidential? How secure is the service?
A:
All staff have signed a confidentiality agreement, and we guarantee not to pass on any of your details or documents to third parties. All documents received by us are held on a secure server, and all emails received and sent (including attachments) are scanned using constantly updated anti-virus software. Read our privacy policy statement here.
Q: How will I know what you have changed in my text?
A:
We will return two copies to you, one with the changes marked and a 'clean' corrected copy.
Q: How long does the service take?
A:
We aim to complete most work within 48 hours of your payment being authorised, but this may vary depending on the size of your text and our current workload. If you have a deadline,
email us
with the details.
Q: Why do you use a quote system? Can you give me a clearer idea of your prices?
A:
Everyone has a different level and style of English, and each document will have different requirements.
By looking at your work first, we can give you a better price, based on the length and complexity of your text. However, we know people feel more comfortable seeing some hard facts and figures,
so to give you a rough idea, here's some examples:
CV/Resume, 2 pages, medium level of English - £25
Thesis/Essay, 15000 words, high level of English, technical data, references - £200 - £220
Website content, medium level of English, 3000 words, including graphics and formatting - £40 - £60
Book, 500 pages, excellent level of English - £250 - £350
Q: Why do you use Paypal? Is there any other way I can pay?
A:
Paypal is free for customers, and easy to sign up with. They will also keep a record of all your payments. You can go to their site to open an account by
clicking here. You can also pay at your local bank by electronic cash transfer using the IBAN system. The details for this type of payment are included when we send you a quote, and also on our payments page. We would only recommend this system for larger orders without tight deadlines, as it can cost between £15-25 (€21-35 / $27-45) and
can take up to 7 days to process.
Q: What if I'm not happy with the work?
A:
In the unlikely event that there are errors in the corrected copy, checkmytext will refund the price of that page. If you are unhappy with any aspect of the style or phrasing, we can carry out minor corrections and changes free of charge. We may charge a fee for more substantial re-writing.
Q: Who will edit my text? What if they edit it too much?
A:
Our editors come from a wide range of academic and media backgrounds. Apart from their excellent knowledge of English, they have a wide range of specializations, ensuring no aspect of your text will be unfamiliar to them. They are aware of the dangers of over-editing, especially if English is your second language. We aim to edit your document for fluency and clarity, eliminating poor phrasing and wrong spelling, while maintaining your individual style and expression. If any part of your text is too ambiguous for our editor to resolve, they will contact you for clarification.
Q: Yeah, but what if, y'know, I've got my own 'style'?
A:
English can be a very complicated language, with many unclear or contradictory rules for its grammar, punctuation
and structure. Spelling and usage can vary widely, depending on the context of your document - from the formal
tone of business letters, speeches, or academic texts to the more familiar and colloquial terms used in everyday language. At
checkmytext, we have a 'house style', a flexible set of rules that we use
when proofreading your text. These are designed to make it read clearly and fluently without being too pedantic;
our editors will be careful to use grammar and punctuation appropriate to the context of each passage.
Q: What types of file can I upload my work in?
A:
We accept work in the following file types — if you wish to upload work in another format, email us with
the file extension and program details and we'll try and accomodate it.
.txt (Notepad) .wpd (Wordpad) .doc (Word)
.rtf (Rich Text Format) .odt (OpenOffice)
.pdf (Acrobat Portable Document Format) .ppt (PowerPoint)
.zip (compressed)
Q: What happens to my files after the work is returned?
A:
In case you have any queries about the work, we store corrected original and corrected documents on file for a month — after that they are deleted from our mail server.
Q: Why won't my files upload?
A:
Each file you upload must be no bigger than 10MB, and in one of the formats listed above.
If you are still having problems it may be due to heavy internet traffic, or a fault with your ISP or your computer's capacity - sending your text as 3 smaller files may solve the problem.
If you have any other questions about our service,
email us
and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
